Breaking news: Derby County manager Paul Warne finally announce replacement of Max Bird  following his derparture with…

With Max Bird on his way to Bristol City, the Rams will be looking to add some more depth in midfield before their return to the Championship next season.

Bird, 23, signed for the Robins in January but returned to Derby on loan and has made over 170 appearances for Derby after coming through the academy in 2017.

Paul Warne will want to find a new midfielder to replace the Burton-born Bird in the summer as they will need plenty of talent to consolidate their position back in the second tier.

According to Alan Nixon of the Sun, Derby are interested in Celtic midfielder Bosun Lawal who has been on loan at League One Fleetwood Town this past season.

Queen’s Park Rangers and Portsmouth are also interested in the 20 year-old and so the Rams may have to put in a good offer to land his signature.

Lawal was one of the only good points from what was a disappointing season for Fleetwood as he made 42 league appearances, scoring six goals and recording two assists.

The Irish youngster was Fleetwood’s second top scorer, which being a midfielder shows some impressive attacking talent.

He would slot into a Derby team that has a lot of older players and so adding some good midfield talent for the future would help to fill the Max Bird-shaped void in the squad.

Lawal joined Celtic in July 2021 and has only made one appearance for the first team. He has however scored six goals in 21 games for the B-team, yet again impressive goalscoring numbers.

Alan Nixon has reported that QPR currently are the frontrunners to land the 20 year-old, but despite that, Derby could put in a generous offer and bring him to Pride Park.

Promotion to the Championship against Carlisle will only strengthen Derby’s appeal, with Warne needing to replace the outgoing Bird.

The Rams should be looking close to home for their replacement by attempting to prise Cameron Brannagan away from Oxford United.
