Max Bird bids farewell to Derby County after accepting rivals move  with…

It was an emotional day for Bird yesterday, who made his final appearance for Derby after 13 years at the club.

The Rams sanctioned his sale to Bristol City during the winter transfer window before bringing him back on a loan deal for the remainder of the campaign.

The academy graduate couldn’t have left on a better note, netting the all-important first goal before collecting his promotion medal in joyous scenes at Pride Park.

Derby supporters took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their views on Bird’s farewell performance.

One fan said: “Max Bird must be regretting leaving #dcfc to go to Bristol.”

Another wrote: “It was a bit emotional seeing Max Bird

take his final bow at Pride Park. Under appreciated by some but a better player than many give him credit for. It’s evident he has a real affection for the club. I wish him all the best but I wish he wasn’t going.”

A third said: “What a way for Max Bird to sign out btw. He looked very emotional coming off. Such an amazing day.”

A fourth posted: “I wonder if Max Bird regrets his move? Thanks for the memories Birdy.”

“I love that Bird signed off with this goal! And I love the collective ‘shoooot’ before he hit it from the fans!! Could tell as soon as it left his boot,” a fifth stated.

It’ll be fascinating to see how Bristol City fare compared to Derby next term as it seems a lot of supporters feel Bird has taken a sideward or even backward step in his career.
