On December 1, Boston Celtics player Jayson Tatum was sent off against the Philadelphia Eagles for obstructing the officials’ vision. With barely ten seconds remaining in the third quarter, Tatum got into an argument and directed glances at officials when there was a foul review against him.

 

When Tatum took the ball up in the halfcourt, the Sixers’ De’Anthony Melton and Robert Covington swiftly mobbed him, and Boston was up 95–94. Tatum accidentally struck Covington in the face while attempting to take a shot, and the refs called an offensive foul. Tatum got into a confrontation with the referees during the review of the foul, for which he was sent off. Watch the video down below:

However, the game was won by the Celtics 125-119, potentially serving as a preview for the Eastern Conference Championship. The Sixers put up a strong fight at the TD Garden in Boston despite being without both Tyrese Maxey and star player Joel Embiid.

In terms of the game, Boston outscored the Sixers by eight points in the first quarter thanks to a monster performance. Boston only scored 25 points in the second quarter while Philadelphia responded with another 36 points. The Sixers had a three-point lead at the half.

 

When the third quarter rolled along, the Sixers were up two points ahead of the Celtics, who had scored twenty-six points apiece. But Boston came back to score thirty points in the fourth quarter, stopping the 76ers at 22, and winning the game by six points. This allowed them to erase the two-point deficit.

With 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, Tatum led the Celtics in individual scoring. For Boston, Derrick White also finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Patrick Beverley led the Sixers with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.
