Move Over Josh Allen Meet the Surprising QB Ready to Lead the Buffalo Bills to Victory

Josh Allen, 49, has the potential to shatter the record as the Bills and Dolphins compete for the AFC East.
The quarterback for Buffalo is one running touchdown away from setting a new mark for the season.
Riding high on a four-game winning streak that has saved Josh Allen and company from the AFC basement, the Buffalo Bills have stormed into 2024. Although the Bills were already favored to make the postseason going into Week 18, a win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night would guarantee a postseason spot as well as an AFC East championship for the team for a record four years.

The Buffalo Bills have roared into 2024 on the back of a four-game winning streak — one that has rescued Josh Allen and company from the AFC abyss. The Bills are already likely to make the playoffs entering Week 18, but a victory over the rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday night will clinch a spot in the postseason for sure — as well as a fourth consecutive AFC East title.

Allen‘s sprint for history could go a long way toward helping Buffalo knock off Miami and complete its surge back to the top of the division. Allen, one of the most prolific rushing quarterbacks in football, is one touchdown away from tying — and two from breaking — the franchise’s record for touchdowns on the ground in a single season by any player.

In pursuit of O.J. Simpson

Only one other player in Bills history has at least 15 rushing touchdowns in a season — and he wasn’t a quarterback.

O.J, Simpson, the decorated and controversial running back, established the Buffalo record for rushing touchdowns in one season way back in 1975, when he found the end zone 15 times and finished second in MVP voting. That season, Simpson won his third rushing yards title and led the NFL in yards per attempt as well as yards per game.

The Bills have featured a number of excellent runners over the years, including LeSean McCoy, Willis McGahee, and Hall of Fame inductee Thurman Thomas, in addition to Simpson, whose NFL career ended before 1980. But if Allen scores two more touchdowns on the ground this Sunday, he may surpass them all.

Allen leads the Bills into a pivotal game against Miami.

The Bills, who were eliminated from the running at 6-6, might win the AFC East on Sunday if they defeat the Dolphins for the second time in 2023. Buffalo’s recent winning streak has put them squarely in the running for the postseason.

In Week 18, the Bills can win the division and secure the #2 seed in the AFC, or they can lose and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars win, in which case they will miss the playoffs completely. Tua Tagovailoa and Miami are three points underdogs against Buffalo, but one thing is certain: regardless of the outcome at Hard Rock Stadium, Allen and the Bills will provide a good show.
