For five-star Khani Rooths, Dusty May has Michigan basketball back in the running.
t wasn’t looking good for Michigan basketball and Khani Rooths right after Juwan Howard was fired. But Dusty May has been putting in work and suddenly, the Wolverines don’t seem out of it.
You usually don’t see a player end up with the program that he decommitted from. But this has been a unique situation. May is also relentless. There was chatter that he was still considering Michigan basketball but on Wednesday, the chances of Rooths signing with the Wolverines improved.
First, it was reported by Davis Moseley, a Michigan basketball insider, that Akeem Miskdeen is going to be hired as an assistant coach by Dusty May. Miskdeen coached at Georgia last season but he previously coached under May at FAU. He was also the Bulldogs’ primary recruiter for Rooths.
Moseley has been keeping a board with the status of recruits and transfers, which tracks their visits and interests. After he reported the news about Miskdeen, he updated his prediction for Rooths to wind up with Michigan. Before that, it looked like Georgia was the team to beat.
Things can change quickly on the recruiting trail. May has a way of making that happen. There’s a ton of positive buzz about former FAU players Johnell Davis and Vlad Goldin coming to the Wolverines, along with Yale big man Danny Wolf.
Those additions would help for next season. Rooths could help Michigan baskeball for the 2024-25 season and beyond. May has eight open scholarships and only one incoming freshman. Surely, he wants to change that ratio and according to reports, May spent the day in Indiana to watch Rooths practice with IMG Academy.
