Trade Market for Steelers Takes a Hit Following Browns Action
The Cleveland Browns took a major hit to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ trading market.
Pittsburgh Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy will play for the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns in the AFC North, where he will face the Pittsburgh Steelers twice a year, as part of a trade agreement.
The 24-year-old wide receiver will go to the Broncos with a fifth- and sixth-round selection, per NFL Network. Furthermore, Denver might have raised the bar for a Diontae Johnson trade with the Steelers.
According to reports, clubs from all around the league are interested in Johnson and the Steelers are willing to consider offers. He’s about to reach the last year of his deal, and since Pittsburgh is likely to move on before the summer, they may be researching incoming rookies at the NFL Combine.
The fact that the Browns acquired Jeudy for a mid-round pick might have given the president an idea of the value of a receiver like Johnson in a trade.
Jeudy had a season with 54 catches for 758 yards and two scores. Despite not having a 1,000-yard campaign yet, in his four years of play, he has still amassed 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns.
In contrast, Johnson had 51 catches for 717 yards and five touchdowns by the end of the 2023 season. But in one more season than Jeudy, he has 4,363 yards and 25 career touchdowns.
Perhaps the most important issue is the age gap. acquiring a former first-round pick before turning 25 and signing a five-year contract worth $12,987 million, as opposed to Johnson’s projected salary of $15,833 million for a 27-year-old.
It is unclear whether Pittsburgh will make a move this summer unless they are certain they can replace Johnson. Following Allen Robinson’s release, the only wide receivers still on the roster who were part of the 53-man roster at the end of the previous season are Johnson, George Pickens, and Calvin Austin.
For their five-year starter, they could only be able to acquire a fifth-round pick as of right now.
