Man Utd step up transfer chase for £100m star who Dan Ashworth ‘loves’

Dan Ashworth’s appointment as sporting director will likely result in a significant makeover of Manchester United, who are already making preparations for the summer transfer window.

As Dan Ashworth gets ready to take over as sporting director, Manchester United is going to make a summer bid for Bruno Guimaraes, a standout player for Newcastle.

Six months after Guimaraes moved to St James’ Park, Ashworth joined Newcastle and soon developed a deep admiration for the midfield player. However, he is now on gardening leave while United works out a compensation package to give him command at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are set to launch a summer move for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes as Dan Ashworth prepares to take over as sporting director.

Ashworth joined Newcastle six months after Guimaraes arrived at St James’ Park, quickly becoming a huge fan of the midfielder. But he is currently on gardening leave as United negotiate a compensation fee so they can hand him the reins at Old Trafford.

Those talks are expected to be completed soon and it appears Ashworth will launch a raid on his soon-to-be former club. With the Red Devils in need of a major boost to their squad, Guimaraes has emerged as a lead target.

The Brazilian has starred for the Magpies since joining in the January transfer window of 2022. He is now a key player under Eddie Howe, scoring three goals and notching seven assists so far this season.

His form has attracted the eyes of some of the Premier League’s bigger teams, with Newcastle having endured a disappointing season this term. According to AS, United are in contention to sign the 26-year-old.

Ashworth is described as being in ‘love with his game’ and has given his endorsement to making a move for the Newcastle star. But United would have to fork out a fee of £100million in order to bring him to Old Trafford.

That is the release clause in his contract, which has four years to run after he signed an extension in October. Newcastle would also likely be unwilling to lose another key star to the Red Devils.
