Two Top HNL Players Drafted by Edmonton Oilers in Major Talent Boost
In a promising move for the future of the franchise, the Edmonton Oilers have selected two standout players from the Hockey National League (HNL) during this year’s NHL Draft. The selections signal the team’s commitment to building a deeper, more competitive roster as they continue their pursuit of a Stanley Cup title.
With their second-round pick, the Oilers drafted 18-year-old forward Luka Stojanovic from HC Davos. Known for his explosive speed, quick hands, and offensive creativity, Stojanovic impressed scouts throughout the HNL season, finishing with 24 goals and 31 assists in 48 games. His ability to adapt to high-pressure situations and his two-way playstyle make him a strong candidate to join the Oilers’ top six in the future.
Later in the fourth round, Edmonton added 19-year-old defenseman Jonas Müller from EHC Biel. A physical, stay-at-home blue-liner with excellent hockey IQ, Müller played a key role in his team’s playoff run and was praised for his shutdown ability against top opposing lines. At 6’3″ and 205 lbs, he brings size and grit to Edmonton’s prospect pool, qualities the Oilers have been seeking to reinforce on the back end.
General Manager Ken Holland expressed excitement after the draft, saying, “We’ve had our eyes on both Luka and Jonas for a while. They’ve proven themselves against tough competition in Europe, and we believe they’ll transition well to the North American style of play.”
Both players are expected to attend Edmonton’s development camp later this summer, where coaches will assess their readiness for either the AHL or further development in Europe. With these selections, the Oilers have taken another step toward securing a strong, well-rounded roster for years to come.
