UNDER GROUND PROJECT: Tennessee Vols Unveil State-of-the-Art, $1 Billion Renovation to Neyland Stadium, Redefining College Football’s Standard with Cutting-Edge Technology, Luxury Suites, and Expanded Seating for a World-Class Fan Experience….

In a bold move that sets a new benchmark for collegiate athletics, the University of Tennessee has announced a transformative, $1 billion renovation to Neyland Stadium—dubbed the “Under Ground Project.” This ambitious undertaking will completely redefine the fan experience and catapult Neyland into the elite tier of sports venues worldwide.

Originally built in 1921, Neyland Stadium has long been a symbol of Volunteer pride. But with this groundbreaking renovation, the iconic structure will blend its rich tradition with futuristic innovation, turning it into a state-of-the-art facility unlike anything seen in college football.

A cornerstone of the renovation is the integration of advanced technology throughout the stadium. Fans can expect high-speed 5G connectivity, a seamless mobile ticketing and concessions experience, and augmented reality features that bring the action on the field to life like never before. A newly designed, immersive LED lighting system will allow for stunning light shows and enhance night game atmospheres, adding even more energy to one of the most electric venues in sports.

The Under Ground Project also introduces premium luxury accommodations that rival professional sports standards. Over 100 new luxury suites and 1,500 club-level seats will offer breathtaking views, exclusive access to upscale dining lounges, and private entrances. These additions cater not only to passionate fans but also to corporate partners and high-end clientele, ensuring a high-revenue, long-term investment in the university’s athletic future.

Seating capacity will expand to over 110,000, reclaiming Neyland’s spot as one of the largest stadiums in the country. The redesign includes widened concourses, improved sightlines, and enhanced ADA accessibility, creating a more inclusive and comfortable environment for all visitors.

One of the most unique aspects of the project is its subterranean expansion. A network of underground facilities—housing cutting-edge training complexes, media rooms, and secure team access tunnels—will streamline operations and create a fortress-like feel for the Volunteers. This below-ground level also features climate-controlled walkways, giving fans new ways to move around the stadium with ease, rain or shine.

Environmental sustainability is also a major focus. The renovation includes solar panel installations, rainwater recycling systems, and energy-efficient infrastructure, reflecting the university’s commitment to a greener future.

University officials describe the Under Ground Project as a long-term investment not just in athletics, but in the community. It’s projected to bring in thousands of new jobs, stimulate local business, and create a ripple effect of economic growth throughout Knoxville and beyond.

With construction already underway and the first phase expected to open for the 2026 season, the Vols are sending a clear message: Tennessee football isn’t just keeping up—it’s leading the way. Neyland Stadium is no longer just a venue; it’s becoming a spectacle, a destination, and a symbol of the future of college football.
