The new-look L.A. Clippers enter the 2025 NBA season as one of the most intriguing teams in the Western Conference. With a revamped roster, a healthy Kawhi Leonard, and continued leadership from Tyronn Lue, expectations are cautiously optimistic. However, just how far they’ll go depends on a few key variables.
First, health remains the elephant in the room. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have both struggled to stay on the court in recent seasons. If they can maintain good health, the Clippers are a legitimate top-four seed in the West. James Harden, now more of a facilitator than a primary scorer, adds valuable playmaking and experience. The addition of younger role players like Terance Mann and the continued development of Bones Hyland provide energy and flexibility off the bench.
However, the West is stacked. Denver, Minnesota, and Oklahoma City are all younger and deeper. Golden State and Phoenix still boast championship pedigree. For the Clippers to survive a second-round matchup or reach the Conference Finals, their stars need to be consistently elite, and their role players must step up in pressure moments.
Defensively, L.A. has the tools to compete with anyone. But offensively, they’ll need a more dynamic identity beyond isolation and perimeter play. Chemistry, ball movement, and timely shooting will be crucial, especially against elite defenses.
If healthy and in sync, this team can absolutely make the Western Conference Finals. But that’s their ceiling. The more likely scenario? A solid playoff run that ends in the second round, unless they catch fire at the right time.
