In an unforgettable moment of pride, reflection, and celebration, Louisiana State University (LSU) unveiled a statue and officially retired the jersey of one of its greatest legends in baseball history—Alexander, a trailblazer whose legacy has left an enduring mark on both LSU Tigers baseball and the Southeastern Conference.
The ceremony, held just outside Alex Box Stadium, was attended by thousands of fans, alumni, current players, coaches, and university officials. The atmosphere was electric, as the LSU community paid tribute to a player who not only dominated on the diamond but also transformed the culture of college baseball with his leadership, integrity, and inspiration.
“Today is more than a celebration of an extraordinary athlete,” said LSU President William F. Tate IV. “It’s a tribute to a man whose values, drive, and courage made him a symbol of excellence. Alexander’s story is part of the soul of LSU.”
A product of unmatched discipline, natural talent, and relentless drive, Alexander’s rise to stardom began the moment he stepped onto the field in Baton Rouge. During his collegiate career, he led the Tigers to two College World Series appearances, shattered school and SEC records, and earned All-American honors multiple times. Yet his true impact extended far beyond home runs and RBIs.
The newly unveiled bronze statue, sculpted by Louisiana native Camille Garrison, captures Alexander in one of his iconic moments: bat in mid-swing, eyes fixed on the ball, posture full of power and grace. Behind the statue stands a display honoring his retired jersey—#11—etched with the words: “Heart of a champion. Legacy of a leader.”
“Alexander changed the game for us,” said legendary former LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri. “But even more than his stats, it was his example—his leadership in the clubhouse, his work ethic in practice, and the way he carried himself as a person—that set him apart. He made everyone around him better.”
During his time at LSU, Alexander maintained a batting average of .362, hit over 50 home runs, and brought home numerous SEC Player of the Week and postseason honors. But his contributions were as impactful off the field as on it. He mentored younger teammates, spoke at community events, and became a vocal advocate for academic excellence and student-athlete well-being.
“He wasn’t just our star—he was our leader,” said former teammate Jordan Mitchell. “He showed us how to compete with class and how to win with humility. This statue is a symbol of what he stood for.”
Alexander’s influence carried beyond Baton Rouge, as he became a respected figure across the Southeastern Conference. He was known for uniting teammates across backgrounds, setting a tone of unity and accountability in the locker room. His leadership helped elevate the standards of SEC baseball, both competitively and culturally.
After college, Alexander played professionally, but his heart remained with LSU. He returned regularly to mentor young players, contribute to local charities, and support initiatives focused on youth baseball and leadership development in Louisiana.
“Alexander is the kind of person you hope every athlete becomes,” said LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward. “A champion, yes—but more importantly, a man of principle, compassion, and purpose. His legacy is bigger than baseball.”
As LSU continues to be a powerhouse in college baseball, currently under head coach Jay Johnson, Alexander’s statue now stands as a symbol of what every Tiger strives to be—fierce, focused, and faithful to the team.
As the sun dipped behind Alex Box Stadium, a new chapter was added to LSU’s storied baseball tradition—one that honors a legend not just for what he achieved, but for how he inspired others to believe, to lead, and to dream.
