In an extraordinary act of compassion and leadership off the field, Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has pledged a massive \$17 million of his personal earnings to convert vacant and abandoned homes across the Denver metro area into fully functioning shelters for homeless youth
The project, titled “Nix Next Step Housing,” is being launched in partnership with the City of Denver, local nonprofit housing initiatives, and youth advocacy organizations. According to representatives from Nix’s foundation, the first phase will see over 100 homes renovated in underserved neighborhoods, each tailored to provide safe, supportive housing for youth ages 16 to 24 who are transitioning out of homelessness, foster care, or unstable living environments.
“This is bigger than football,” Nix said during a press conference held Saturday morning at Denver City Hall. “I’ve been blessed with a platform and resources most people never get. I couldn’t look at the number of young people sleeping in shelters or on the street every night and just stay silent. This is about giving them a real chance at life — a roof over their head, a bed to sleep in, and hope for a better future.”
Nix, the former Auburn and Oregon standout, was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and quickly won the hearts of fans with his poise, work ethic, and leadership. His generosity off the field now adds a new layer to his growing legacy as a role model in Denver.
A Community-Driven Vision
The \$17 million investment will fund home renovations, staffing, mental health resources, job placement programs, and educational support for residents. The initiative aims not only to provide housing but also a path forward for youth who often fall through the cracks of the traditional social services system.
Denver Mayor Lisa Calderón praised Nix for his initiative and commitment to long-term community investment.

Star wide receiver Courtland Sutton posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Proud to call Bo my QB — what he’s doing off the field is bigger than any touchdown he’ll ever throw.”
While the Broncos continue to build on the field, Nix’s off-field actions are already creating a legacy far beyond football. Construction on the first group of shelters is expected to begin this summer, with the first homes opening to residents by early 2026.
