There is no verified information supporting the claim that Lane Kiffin is set to replace Kirby Smart at Georgia.

Head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are in the hunt for a commitment from a key transfer addition ahead of the 2025 college football season. Smart and Co. are extremely selective when it comes to the transfer portal. The focus for the Bulldogs is largely within the high school ranks, and Georgia has hauled in nine-straight top-five classes in that aspect. When UGA does sign a transfer, it’s usually from a position of need. And that’s why Alabama A&M transfer defensive lineman Sedrick Smith is an intriguing target. Smith (6-foot-4, 310 pounds) is reportedly on a visit to Georgia after entering the transfer portal on March 23. He racked up 20 tackles (3.5 for loss) with two sacks in 11 games as a true freshman last season. Smith was an unranked recruit coming out of South Atlanta (Georgia) High School in the class of 2024. It’s clear, though, that UGA and defensive line coach Tray Scott have kept tabs on his growth at Alabama A&M.

Georgia lost five starters along the defensive line this offseason, including two of the Bulldogs’ top interior players in Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson. Smith would help fill the void. Georgia is also hosting a pair of talented transfers in Army’s Elo Modozie and North Carolina’s Beau Atkinson this weekend, according to multiple reports. Also a position of need, Modozie and Atkinson are two of the top edge players in the spring transfer window. The spring transfer period will range from April 16-25. The defending SEC champion Bulldogs wrapped up spring practice last weekend and will open the 2025 season at home against Marshall on Aug. 30.
